Our Projects

Kruger Residence

18 photos This beautiful ocean view, modern front courtyard, entertaining space, went through a complete transformation. The owners wanted to take their old school beach style front yard and turn it into a more private area for entertaining. A gated courtyard was added to make the front yard space more private and reduce access from street foot traffic, along with a fire bowl, built-in bench seating, fountain and and edible garden. The courtyard was designed around an existing concrete patio - all other hardscape is new. Splashes of lime green color, aqua and and deep orange, in plantings and garden accents, create a bright palette.

SD County Fair - Award Winning San Diego Horticultural Society Display Garden

11 photos In keeping with this year’s San Diego County Fair Garden theme - Cosmic Spaces - garden designer Susanna Pagan has created a celestial garden inspired by Van Gogh’s painting Starry Night. This garden design received 8 awards ranging from Most Unique Landscape to the Environmental Award! Our sustainable garden has a variety of garden features that the average homeowner can recreate in a small yard on a modest budget. The space is ethereal, light and airy and plays on the sky, the moon and the stars. Dappled with white flowering plants, the moon garden uses silvery succulents and grey foliage that reflects the moonlight and contrasts with nearby greens, blues and purples. The color palette - an evening mist white, a star spangled cobalt blue, a twilight sky blue, and glowing green of moon light- beckons the homeowner to relax on the patio, sit back and gaze at the heavens above.

Valdes Residence

After my clients purchased their coastal home in Solana Beach, the garden needed an update! They desired a garden that matched their modern vibrant style and had several challenges to overcome in regards to clear navigation through the space. The garden did not have a consistent theme or use of consistent materials. New pathways, steps and walls were added to improve navigating the garden. A color scheme was created using white, gray, blue, yellow, and orange as the primary colors. The recently installed deck, utilized whites and grays, played a part in driving the color scheme. White walls, blue gates, blue pebble, fire-side furniture using blue cushions, white and gray pottery, are just a few of the items used to tie the spaces together. A modular plank paver in dark and light gray, created a beautiful tapestry in the fire-side area. All the property fencing was updated in modern light gray, horizontal slat fencing. New plantings used vibrant oranges, yellows, lime green, blues and whites. Modern furniture made from recycled plastic, in grays and whites, accented the deck. Custom cushions and pillows in grays, blues, yellows, and white on the built-in bench seating, tie into the color scheme. Photography by Leigh Castelli Photography. Landscape installed by Turner Landscape Construction.
